Heading
for the Cayes |
Imagine
the excitement of boarding a water taxi bound for one of
the many exotic islands of Belize. The engines power
up and the vessel speeds off leaving a white foamy wake
in its path. The skies above are immaculately blue,
seeming to mirror the unbroken wave movements below.
The captain announces the approaching destination, as you
eagerly peer out into blue horizon to see the outline of
palm trees and thatched cabanas…
The
Belize Marine Terminal, located at the foot of the Swing
Bridge in downtown Belize City is the most convenient location
to catch a water taxi heading to the two popular island
towns of Caye Caulker and San Pedro. Schedules to
and from these islands are almost hourly and cost about
US$15.00 round trip to Caye Caulker and US$27.50 round trip
to San Pedro. Children between 5 and 10 years old
pay half-price. Special charters to the atolls and other
island tours can also be arranged upon request.
Visitors
in Corozal, wanting to experience San Pedro can do so on
the daily run provided by Thunderbolt Travels. This
trip embarks from Corozal Town at 7:00 a.m. and leaves San
Pedro en route to Corozal at 3:00 p.m. Visitors wishing
to experience the southern islands and beautiful Glovers
Reef Atoll can arrange charters from the Riverside Café
in Dangriga Town or from Placencia Peninsula further south
in the Stann Creek District.
