What was once the Customs House, then
a Fire Station, the nicely renovated building sitting on
the river’s edge on the north side of the Belize City
Swing Bridge, is now the Belize Marine Terminal and Maritime
Museum. Passengers board water taxis from this terminal
to travel to San Pedro Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker.
Visitors awaiting their journey to the Cayes can explore
the interesting maritime museum hosted within. Being bordered
to the East by the vibrant Caribbean Sea, Belize’s
history is shrouded in seafaring adventures and activities.
In an effort to capture the essence of this nautical past,
the museum features several detailed models of sailing vessels
and boats of earlier times, fascinating accounts of the
capture of Spanish ships and the dramas of battles won and
lost, colorful pictures of the famous Barrier Reef, and
a display of the tools and techniques of fishing in Belizean
waters. A quick tour of the museum is sure to provide an
interesting wait
